Opened in 1907, Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club  (MEGC) offers unrivalled views stretching from the iconic Forth Bridges to Edinburgh Castle and North Berwick Law. Originally designed by Ben Sayers it was later remodeled in 1936 by the legendary James Braid.

While not the longest by modern standards, the course delivers a true test of golfing skill, rewarding precision and strategy on every shot. Ingeniously designed across just 68 acres, it packs 18 holes into a compact yet exciting layout that keeps players engaged from start to finish. One of its standout features is the flexibility it offers — depending on course availability, members can choose from shorter loops of 3, 7, 9, 10, or 12 holes, or enjoy the full 18. Whether you’re looking for a quick round or a full game, the course adapts perfectly to your time and preference.

For avid golfers, MEGC has regular mens and ladies competitions, in addition to a very successful Get Into Golf (GIG) program for new or inexperienced golfers, and a growing Junior Program. Lessons are also available.

At the heart of the club is its striking, south-facing clubhouse which was rebuilt in 2001. Designed to showcase sweeping views of the Pentland Hills, it offers the perfect backdrop for both relaxation and celebration. Members and visitors can enjoy exceptional catering, from casual bites to memorable dining experiences. More than just a golfer’s retreat, the clubhouse is also a great venue for conferences, workshops, and private gatherings, making it a true centerpiece of club life.

At MEGC, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Joining our team means becoming part of a club with a proud history and a bright future. From caring for the course and preparing food to hosting events and supporting our members, every role plays an important part in creating the warm, high-quality experience our members and guests expect. If you take pride in your work and enjoy being part of a team, we’d love to hear from you.

Having made the journey up from Worcestershire, I'm delighted to say, from the moment I arrived, your brilliant club didn't disappoint.

Everyone was so friendly and the course was in superb condition. Credit to all your staff. A special place.
